The Importance Of Reflective Questions

Reflection is a personal and a professional tool for self-development. It was considered by some as navel gazing when in actuality it is an opportunity to be curious about who we are as individuals and what we do leading to increased self-awareness.

Research has shown that we think more than 50,000 thoughts per day, of which more than half are negative and more than 90% are just repeats from the day before. Therefore, it’s important to take the time and effort to refocus the mind on the positive through reflection as this provides the opportunity to grow and develop as a person.

Developing our ability to understand ourselves, our motivations and to learn more about our own values also helps us escape the distractions of the modern 24/7 fast-paced world and instead focus on who we are and our achievements.

Reflective questions act as prompts to help us to focus on particular areas of our work or life and record as we grow and change as individuals. Here are some examples of reflective questions we can use on a daily basis:

  1. What did I do to help someone today?
  2. What went well today?
  3. What would I do differently given the opportunity?
  4. What can I learn from the things that didn’t go so well today?
